The Russell 3000 Index, is a stock market index
tracking 3,000 largest publicly held companies incorporated in
US as measured by total market capitalization.
It is maintained by FTSE Russell, a subsidiary of the London Stock Exchange Group.
The value of Russell 3000 index is calculated using the capitalization-weighted method, which can be described as:
Index Value = (1/Divisor) ∑ (Stock Weight) * (Stock Price) where: Index Value = 100.00, originally in 1984; 3,495.72, now in 2025 Stock Weight = (Market Cap) / ∑ (Market Cap)
The Russell 3000 index was launched on Jan 1, 1984, with a fixed value of 100, by adjusting the divisor.
