It is the most active stock trading venue in the US by volume,
and ranked second on the list of stock exchanges by market capitalization
of shares traded, behind the New York Stock Exchange market.
The Nasdaq stock market is operated and owned by Nasdaq, Inc., which is also traded on the Nasdaq stock market under the symbol, NDAQ.
The Nasdaq stock market was established on Feb 5, 1971, with 50 stocks as the world's first electronic stock market. On Jan 31, 2025, there are 3,272 stocks listed on the Nasdaq stock market for trading.
